We are excited to announce Take 10 Auckland is back in the city for another year in the Quay Street District, after the great welcome we received in 2025.

We are so grateful to Auckland Council for their ongoing support and Waitemata Local board for providing us with funding.

One night can so easily change a life, and since Take 10’s opening in 2017, we have always held space for people who need extra support, as well as those who want to make a pit stop to reconnect with themselves and the people they are with.

Have you ever wondered what a night at Take 10 might be like for a volunteer?

Here’s the inside scoop on a night in Pōneke.

Each Friday and Saturday night one of our team leaders picks up the truck and drives it into Courtenay Place, parking up next to Lucky and meeting the other team members who are on for the night.

Everything we need is in the truck, team jackets, bean bags, games, water, cups, phone chargers, even the astroturf for our mat and the stairs to get in and out for people who need a private area for first aid, - they’re all on the other side of our truck door.

Once jackets are on it’s all go.

Working together we fill cups, stack jenga, lay out the astroturf mat, set down the bean bags, piece together the connect four, build the jenga, and get the music pumping.

Safety is important always important, so after set up is complete we always start the night with a briefing, outlining what to do if someone acts in an unsafe way.

We feel privileged that we have great relationships with security services - we even have our own security guard - and the support of Council who are always keeping an eye on things.

We take the responsibility of supporting people in our city at night seriously, and it’s great to have backing from others working within the security field and council.

Safety briefing over we are officially open to the public.

It’s time for games, kōrero, water, and great vibes.

Clifton, one of our team leaders says that for him, the night is all about connecting with others, and being a part of the community.

“I love the chance to connect with people when they are on a night out, hearing how their night is going and how Take 10 can lend a hand to support them, or just be a great place for them to relax and play some games. There’s nothing like a great conversation and I get so much out of it too”

On some nights we are known to have visits from others in the community also - we were overjoyed to recently have a visit from Tuhi Wallen who was filming his night out, brought pizza for our team, and gave a big shout out to Take 10!

”It’s always a highlight joining in with a game of Jenga and Connect Four with people who visit our space. Seeing people have fun at Take 10 and enjoying themselves is a great reminder of why we do what we do. ” Says Tinaya.

To support our team to have a great night too, around midnight we grab fries from LUCKY and cold drinks, so everyone is fueled up while supporting students and others in the community, to have fun and stay safe.

Our team are friendly and inviting, and enjoy supporting one another.

When the clubs reach peak vibes between 1 and 3 we see a big influx of people at Take 10, with this often being our busiest time, especially for helping people get home, with free ubers and transport advice for people who need it.

This is also peak time for banter, and our team love hearing from people about how their night has gone and what their plans are for the rest of the weekend.

We are also so grateful for the support of services such as the VUW shuttle giving safe transport home for students living in VUW halls, from the shuttle stop close by.

The night comes to a close at 3 and we pack up the truck, and debrief for the night. Then it’s time for our team to head home and get some rest, after a great night supporting people in the city.
