Take 10 Youth Zone

Our focus is to increase the reach Take 10 has in the community by extending the services we offer to rangatahi in the form of a youth zone.

We’ll be in Linden, at the community centre every Wednesday afternoon, and Waitangi Skate Park every Friday afternoon.

Our team will be there offering our usual services: water, a charging station, games, and bean bags set up out the front with additional support services available.

How it works

Take 10 youth zone aims to:

  • support rangatahi
  • provide a safe and fun space for them to come to after school

We keep our “safe zone” welcoming and non-judgmental, by:

  • always using positive language
  • greeting visitors with a smile, water, and lollies
  • providing a private space for those who need more attention

Want to help?

We’re looking for volunteers to help in the afternoons, hand out water, talk to people, and make the Take 10 area an inviting place to be. Interested? Click below, fill in your details and we’ll get back to you!

We are also always on the lookout for medics and registered youth workers to join us and help make a difference. If you’re qualified and interested, please contact us.

The Take 10 pilot outside of the St. James Theatre brought a positive atmosphere to the Wellington nightlife among Courtenay Place on Friday and Saturday nights. Staff were engaging and professional with the public, they made me feel welcome and always encouraged me to get involved handing out water or lollies. I would like to see Take 10 become a permanent fixture in Wellington.

Huge congratulations to the team for this excellent investment in making Wellington a safer city for everyone

Councillor Fleur Fitzsimons, Community Well-Being Portfolio Lead

We see this project making a significant contribution to the city’s approach to harm reduction as well as contributing to the city safety and community well being. Take 10 is a preventative initiative which reduces the impacts of alcohol harm by providing a safe and supportive space for vulnerable youth, people to take a break, rehydrate, charge cell phones and reconnect with friends. Wellington City Council is committed to continuing to partner with Take 10 through ongoing support from officers and funding.
